+ WHAT TO EXPECT
UPCOMING DATES:
- The Alpha Course will not be running during the summer, and will return this September.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING ALPHA?
A typical meeting would go something like this:
6:30pm - Guests arrive and dinner is served. All guests are immediately treated to a gourmet dinner prepared by the Coastal Alpha team. This is a great opportunity to visit friends and meet new people.
7:30pm - Live music and video presentations take place. This usually consists of a couple worship songs followed by a welcome and a few classic jokes by the Alpha team leader. All guests are then invited to watch Nicky Gumble discuss the Alpha course topics.
8:40pm - Participants break in to small group for open-ended discussion. Once the video is complete, each guest breaks off into a small group to discuss the week's topic in more detail. These group settings are a non-threatening environment, where people have the opportunity to express their opinion without feeling judged or cut down by other group members.
9:15pm - The evening winds up.
The small groups are an important part of ALPHA, so that each person has an opportunity to discuss thoughts that arose during the video. This gives an opportunity for everyone to get to know each other and to learn together.
WHAT TOPICS ARE DISCUSSED?
Rev. Nicky Gumbel appears on a video filmed during an actual run of the ALPHA Course. He illustrates his message with stories, jokes, historical facts and Bible scriptures. We cover topics such as:
- Christianity: Boring, Untrue or Irrelevant?
- Who is Jesus?
- Why did Jesus die?
- Why and how should I read the Bible?
- Why and how do I pray?
- What about the Holy Spirit?
- Does God heal today?
- How can I overcome evil?
- Why and how should I tell others?
- How can I make the most of the rest of my life?
