+ WHAT TO EXPECT

At Coastal Church we value the importance of water baptism for every believer. It is a significant milestone in every Christian's life, and something that can be shared and witnessed by friends and loved ones. A typical water baptism at Coastal Church will usually have a mixture of people, it's a time where different ages, genders and cultures can come together in a celebration of what God has done in their lives.

We also want to make sure all those participating have the proper understanding before they make a decision. If you are considering becoming water baptised then please go through the information on this section of our website to become more aware of what's involved and why we believe in it.

UPCOMING DATES:

The next water baptism will be taking place January 30th, 2010. Please check back for more updates.

WHERE DOES BAPTISM TAKE PLACE?

Water baptism at Coastal Church takes place at English Bay during the warmer months, and inside the church building during the colder months.

CAN MY FAMILY BE BAPTISED TOGETHER?

Yes! If each family member understands fully the meaning of baptism, and each one has personally placed his/her trust in Christ for salvation, we encourage families to be baptized at the same time. It is a wonderful expression of commitment. Young children who wish to be baptized are asked to meet with our Minister of Children for a pre-baptism conversation.

However, it is important to remember that baptism is a personal statement of faith, not a family tradition. It is usually not wise to delay your baptism while waiting on other family members to accept Christ, particularly children. This puts an undue pressure on them, and delays your obedience.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

Pants and a sweatshirt are recommended. Other items are fine as long as the clothes are not revealing when wet.

WILL I HAVE TO SAY ANYTHING?

The Sunday of water baptism, Pastor Dave will conduct a special baptism class to explain its meaning and answer any questions. Baptism takes place at English Bay, in the sanctuary, or at a member's home pool. At the baptismal service, Pastor Dave will introduce you and then ask you if you have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour. You will then be briefly lowered into the water, afterwards you may leave the water, dry off, and watch the others. Later you will be mailed a certificate of your baptism. We encourage you to invite all your relatives and friends to attend your baptism.

Other than stating publicly that you have accepted Christ you are not required to say anything. You will be given to opportunity to give a brief testimony, but the choice is yours.

WHAT IF I HAVE SPECIAL NEEDS?

Our pastor can perform a private baptism if needed.
