Releasing Your Faith |
|
WELCOME ICEBREAKER What is one item you are presently saving up to buy? WORSHIP Sing songs that speak of the goodness and the love of God. WORD Faith is the currency of heaven. We read in Hebrews 11 it was by faith that men and women did great exploits. As it is with money that the world’s goods come to us, so it is by faith that God’s blessings come to us. This lesson is about a dad who spent his “faith currency” to believe for a miracle for a very special person in is life. His story leaves us a valuable lesson in faith. As a group read Mark 5:21-43. - Jesus came to the shore to find a crowd awaiting Him. In this crowd Jairus acted with great desperation. He was a known leader in the Jewish community. Everyone in the crowd that day would of known who he was. It was the religious leaders of the day that opposed Jesus the most, yet this leader falls at the feet of Jesus on the beach of the Sea of Galilee.
- What did Jairus do to draw on the power of God?
- What was it that pushed him passed his comfort zone into the faith zone?
- Faith always has an element of risk in it. What did this father and leader risk that day?
- What do you desire so intensely from God that you would risk public embarrassment? (Note in verse 40 they laughed at Jesus and Jairus with Him)
- The report came back to Jairus his daughter was dead. It was hopeless to call a doctor now but it was not hopeless to call Jesus the Messiah.
- Describe how you think Jarius was feeling at this point. What was going through his mind?
- What hopeless situation can you think of as a home group that only Jesus can help? Pray for this situation today.
- What does Jesus do to encourage Jairus when the bad report comes?
- Why did Jesus say she was only sleeping and not dead? (We know the girl was literally dead for her spirit had left her body; see Luke 8:55 and James 2:26) See also Romans 4:17.
- Jesus enters a house full of weeping and confusion, certainly no faith here. In order for the power of God to move there must be an atmosphere of faith. The words of faith from Jesus only brought laughter and scorn. His words offended them. (See 1 Cor. 1:23-28 how the Gospel still offends)
- What did Jesus do to create a faith atmosphere?
- Have any of you ever been laughed at for your making a statement of faith?
