Defeating Discouragement Print

WELCOME ICEBREAKER

Name a project you have on the go that you would like to have completed?

WORSHIP

Read Psalm 13 and see how David dealt with discouragement.

WORD

As a group read Nehemiah chapter 4.

In this story we see that the builders of the wall became discouraged and quit working on the wall. As a group brainstorm about what caused them to become discouraged?
Your discussion might include such things as:

- physical fatigue,
- fear, criticism and intimidation from their enemies,
- fellow Jews not showing support,
- frustration,
- putting their eyes on the rubbish instead of their goal

What affect did their discouragement have on them?

What steps did Nehemiah take to encourage the workers?

What can you do to encourage others?

What can we learn from the following verses about encouraging others?
- Hebrews 3:13
- Romans 15:5
- 1 Thess. 5:11
- Hebrews 10:24,25
- 1 John 3:18

WORK

Ask your group if there is anyone facing discouragement and pray for them.

Please note that this Sunday is baptism Sunday at English Bay at 4:30. If there are those in your group who are being baptized please remind them to meet after the 11:00 service for instruction.
