What it Takes to be a Man/Woman of God |

WELCOME ICEBREAKER Name one quality a man or woman of God should be know for? WORSHIP Pick songs that deal with faith and trusting in God. WORD This past week we had the privilege of having Carl Gustav Severin from Sweden with us. His message on Father’s day was directed to fathers but the points he delivered were applicable to all of us. He share that fathers needed to: - Run from certain things.
- Pursue certain things.
- Fight for certain things.
- Be faithful.
- Inspire their families.
Key text: 1 Timothy 6:11-12 Discussion Questions - When you look at the verses preceding the key text, what was Timothy exhorted to flee from?
- Paul says these things cause us to lose our footing in our faith and cause us to end up bitter. Discuss how it causes us to stray from our faith and how can we flee it.
- What is the difference between money being the root of all evil and the love of money being the root of all evil?
- According to Gallup polls, the average American saves only 4% of his income. The average European saves 16%. The average Japanese person 25%. What do you think the average Canadian would save? Why such differences?
- What does Paul charge Timothy to pursue?
- Why did Paul add more instructions to the wealthy in verses 17-19? In your opinion, is it easier for a rich person or a poor person to follow the command in verse 18? Why?
- Why does Paul use battle imagery in verse 12?
- Thirty years ago it took an average young person only 4.5 years to reach his father's income level. Today, it will take the average young person 17 years. How does this affect our faith? Is our fight different today?
