Preparing for Easter Print

WELCOME ICEBREAKER

What are you expecting for this weekend?

WORSHIP

Focus on songs that speak of the resurrection.

WORD

This week as we prepare for Resurrection Sunday our home groups will be taking communion. Jesus never asked His disciples to remember His birth. But He did instruct them to remember His death and resurrection. He gave the church two visible symbols (called “ordinances”) as reminders of His death. These two ordinances are: Baptism and The Lord’s Supper. The Lord’s Supper is an object lesson that represents a great spiritual truth for believers.

Prior to the evening prepare the elements for communion. For your group you may want to use a loaf of bread and break it as Christ’s body was broken for us. Grape juice should be used. Spend time in prayer to prepare yourself. Call the group members and let them know so they to can prepare themselves.

Before taking communion read Luke 22:14-23 and discuss what the benefits of the covenant are for the believer. Why did Jesus ask us do this?

Read 1 Cor. 11:23-31
If there is any unforgiveness or tension in the group members there should be given the opportunity before hand to clear it up. Let your group know that we are to take the cup in a worthy manner. Then simply ask: “If any of you have any unforgiveness against anyone or unconfessed sins take a moment of silent prayer and ask the Lord for forgiveness. If someone has offended you in the group or you have offended someone quietly ask for their forgiveness before we take communion.”

Following the discussion have someone read 1 Cor. 11:23-24, then pray and then break off a piece of bread and pass it around. After that have another read 1 Cor. 11:25-27, pray and then distribute the cup. Following communion it is often fitting to sing.

WORK

Resurrection Sunday is one of the greatest days to invite someone to church. It is important that we try and invite as many as possible to the 9:00 AM service as the 11:00 AM service is nearly full already and we would like to have room for everyone. Ask each one in the group who they could invite to church this coming Sunday. Then pray for these people that they will come and be touched by the resurrection power of our Lord.

Remember to announce the Good Friday joint church service at 11:00 AM and the Sunday night praise and worship night. This will be our last service in the building for about 10 months so lets all be there to close this chapter with a great celebration! Announce to your group that services start in the Terasen building April 3.
