WELCOME ICEBREAKER What advice did your parents give you on marriage? WORSHIP Spend time singing or take time to ask for praise reports. Another option is to read Psalm 111. It is important to come into the presence of the Lord with thanksgiving. WORD Read — Proverbs chapter 5 as a group and ask them to be reflecting on the discussion questions below and be ready to share their thoughts. - What instructions in this chapter stick out to you?
- What advice would a father give his son today? What is different, what is the same?
- Would the wisdom to a daughter be different? If so how?
- What dangers does the father warn him about if he gives into sexual temptation?
- What benefits are there from in “drinking from your own cistern”?
- What does it mean to be captivated/enraptured/intoxicated as seen in verses 19-20?
- With an understanding of verse 21, what difference should this make in our future thoughts and decisions regarding sex?
- What principles from God’s word do you think make for a stronger marriage?
- What factors do you think do the most damage to a marriage?
- What steps can a married couple take against unfaithfulness?
OPTIONAL Read — 2 Cor. 6:14-15 “Don’t team up with those who are unbelievers. How can goodness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness? What harmony can there be between Christ and the Devil? How can a believer be a partner with an unbeliever?” - How important do you think it is that believers marry a fellow believer?
- How important is it to be on the same page spiritually in a relationship?
- What effect do you think it has on children to have parents who have a different set of values?
- In the storms of life, where do people go to for strength, if they don’t have a relationship with God?
WORK Pray for sexual purity in your group. Encourage your group to take advantage of Celebrate Recovery and the upcoming Spiritual Cleansing weekend. We will announce the date this Sunday. Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.
