Courage to Handle Change |
|
WELCOME ICEBREAKER When you think of a courageous person who comes to mind? WORSHIP “Glory in His holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.” (1 Chron. 16:10) Spend about 10 to 15 minutes seeking the Lord and His presence at the meeting. Freely rejoice in Him and His goodness! WORD - Read Joshua 1:1-13
- Why do you think God repeats several times to be strong and of good courage?
- Courage is defined as to disregard fear. What were some of the fears Joshua must of faced as he led over two million people into the promised land after the great leader Moses was dead?
- Meditating on the word of God will do three things for us that will build courage for change.
- It will help us to see ourselves as God does. Joshua 1:5.
- How do you think God saw Joshua? What does He think of us?
- It will help us to see the situation as God sees it. Joshua 1:3.
- Discuss how God saw this situation.
- What is the difference between God’s perspective on our problems and our own perspective on the problem?
- We will see God for who He is. Joshua 1:9b.
- How did Joshua have to view God in order to succeed?
- Courage requires we take action.
- Joshua would have to lead the Jews into a land that would require one step at a time before it was given to them. Joshua 1:3. It would be one battle at a time. Days of travel and much planning before they could enjoy it. Courage to take one step at a time to reach our goals is much easier to come by then being overwhelmed at a huge mountain.
- What can we learn from the following verses about diligence? Prov.
6:6-8, 10:4, 21:5. Where can you apply the principle of taking small steps to the goals in your life? WORK Look up the following scriptures about encouraging each other: Hebrews 10:23-25. What are some practical ways we can encourage those in our group? Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9
