Why Study Angels?

  1. To understand God is for you!
“Spiritual forces and resources are available to all Christians. Because our resources are unlimited, Christians will be winners. Millions of angels are at God’s command and at our service. The hosts of heaven stand at attention as we make our way from earth to glory, and Satan’s BB guns are no match for God’s heavy artillery. So don’t be afraid. God is for you.” Billy Graham, Angels.

  2. To bring clarity to a subject that is often misunderstood.
A poll conducted by Time magazine found 69% of the public believe in angels. All cultures believe in invisible beings, bad and good but not every supernatural experience is from God. Satan is able to counterfeit the real thing and appear as an angel of light. (2 Corinthians 11:14)

  3. To assure us that angels are here to help today as much as they were at the birth of Christ and in Bible times.

  4. To learn what our part is to have angels minister on our behalf.

What Promotes Angelic Activity?

  1. Speak God’s Word and believe God’s word.
Luke 1:20“…And now, since you didn’t believe what I said, you won’t be able to speak until the child is born. For my words will certainly come true at the proper time.”

“Because the angel chose to make Zacharias dumb, we can conclude that unbelief in the brain will not get into the heart if it does not pass through the mouth!” — Dr. Roy Hicks, Guardian Angels

Psalms 103:20Bless the LORD, you His angels, Who excel in strength, who do His word, Heeding the voice of His word.

Revelation 22:9Then he said to me, “See that you do not do that. For I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren the prophets, and of those who keep the words of this book. Worship God.”

Daniel 10:12Then he said to me, “Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words.”

  2. Reverence and worship to God.
Zacharias was worshipping God when the angel appeared. Note he continued to worship God in what seemed like a negative situation. There had been a spiritual silence in Israel for 400 years and his prayers for his wife and him seemed to be unanswered. (Luke 1:9)

The Song of Mary shows her reverence for God. (Luke 2:46, 50)

Daniel’s custom was to worship God three times a day and we see the angel delivering him in the lion’s den. (Daniel 6:10, 22)

Psalms 34:7For the angel of the LORD guards all who fear him, and he rescues them.

Psalms 91:11, 14For he orders his angels to protect you wherever you go… The LORD says, “I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name…”

  3. Obedience will bring their protection.
Luke 1:37-38For with God nothing is ever impossible and no word from God shall be without power or impossible of fulfillment. Then Mary said, Behold, I am the handmaiden of the Lord; let it be done to me according to what you have said. And the angel left her.

We see the angel warning Joseph in a dream on two occasions to protect him. Once to flee to Egypt and second when it was safe to return to his home. (Luke 2:13, 19)

Psalms 34:7For the angel of the LORD guards all who fear him, and he rescues them.

  4. Those who confess Jesus publicly.
Luke 12:8-9“And I assure you of this: If anyone acknowledges me publicly here on earth, I, the Son of Man, will openly acknowledge that person in the presence of God’s angels. But if anyone denies me here on earth, I will deny that person before God’s angels.”

But angels are only servants. They are spirits sent from God to care for those who will receive salvation.
