Master Key to Victory - The Name of Jesus Print

WELCOME ICEBREAKER

Have the group write down five people they feel have a great name with a simple statement as to why they think they are great. For example, Tiger Woods has a great name because of his achievement as a golfer.

WORSHIP

Sing songs that speak of the name of Jesus.

WORD

Have the group read Acts 3:1-16 and 4:1-18 and ask them to note the references to the name of Jesus and the affect of His name.

  • Why do you think the religious people of the day were so threatened by the name of Jesus?
  • Do you find people uncomfortable with the name of Jesus? If so why?
  • Peter says in Acts 3:16 that it was the name of Jesus, and more specifically faith in the name that healed the man.
  • What does it mean to have faith in His name and how can we have this faith?
  • What did Peter and John use the name of Jesus for here and what did it accomplish?

Have the group look up the following verses and determine the use of the name of Jesus mentioned.

  1. Use it as a legal name to cast out devils and take your authority.

    • Mark 16:17
    • Acts 16:18

  2. Use it in giving thanks to the Father.

    • Ephesians 5:20
    • 2 Thessalonians 1:12

  3. Use it when going to the Father for a request.

    • John 16:23-24

  4. Use it in every deed and conversation.

    • Colossians 3:17

  5. Use it to have a gathering.

    • Matthew 18:20

  6. Use it to pray for the sick.

    • Mark 16:18
    • James 5:14-15

WORK

Move into a time of prayer. Find out what the needs are. Assign those who feel comfortable to pray for the needs of others. Reassure them the name of Jesus is the key to an answered prayer.
