Come and See Print

WELCOME ICEBREAKER

Who was the first person that told you about Jesus Christ?

WORSHIP

In Luke 5:8 we read how Peter, a rough fisherman, bowed down to worship Jesus. He was in awe of the majesty and love of his Messiah. Choose songs that inspire your group to really worship Jesus.

WORD

As a group read John 1:35-51.

In this passage two of the disciples of John the Baptist would leave him to go and follow Jesus of Nazareth. John had told them about Jesus and pointed the Messiah out to them.

  • How do you think John felt about having two of his students/disciples leave to follow Jesus?

Jesus told Andrew and John to come and see. Two action words; come —take a step in His direction and see — check it out for themselves. These are the same words Philip would use for his friend Nathanael and likely what Andrew told his big brother Simon.

  • Why were Andrew and Philip so quick to go and get a brother/friend and bring them to Jesus?
  • What motivates you to talk to someone about Jesus?
  • What causes you to hesitate to tell others about Jesus?
  • How does Jesus respond to Peter when He sees him?
  • How does Jesus respond to Nathanael when He sees him?
  • What is the similarity in how Jesus responds when people come to Him?
  • If you told your friends to “come and see” this Jesus, where would you bring them?
  • Nathanael was honest about his doubts that this Jesus was all that Philip was telling him He was. What are some of the hurdles and misconceptions or misinformation that people have to overcome today to come to Jesus?

These disciples seemed pretty quick to come to the conclusion that Jesus was the Son of God and the Messiah.

How did they come to this conclusion so quickly?
How do people come to this conclusion today?
How did you come to this conclusion?

WORK

The work on this week is quite obvious. Like Andrew and Philip, we need to go and invite others to come and see this Jesus we have met. As a group talk and pray about whom you can invite to church.

Philip found Nathanael and told him, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote--Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” “Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” Nathanael asked.
Come and see,” said Philip.
