WELCOME ICEBREAKER Which one of your neighbors do you know the best? What is their name and how did you get to know them? WORSHIP Sing songs that speak of the goodness and the love of God. WORD As a group read Luke 10:29-37 together. Today the term “good Samaritan” is synonymous with a person who cares. Jesus tells this story in response to a lawyer who was trying to weasel his way out of loving people he didn’t consider his neighbor. At that time the Jews considered only fellow Jews neighbors. If Jesus had said that your neighbor is the person who lives next door to you then he could have justified not loving and caring for certain people. For most of us it is unusual to come across someone beaten on the side of the road. But we have many other “neighbors” who may be hurting very much on the inside. Have the group discuss how did the good Samaritan demonstrates each of the qualities in the acronym for CARE? - Compassion
- Acceptance
- Responsibility
- Encouragement
- Who do we have in our daily lives that we can apply these principles to?
- Why did the other two travelers turn away?
- How does that compare to our excuses today?
- What did it cost the Samaritan?
- What does it cost to care today?

Jesus said to him, “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: “You shall love your neighbour as yourself.” On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets. Matthew 22:37-40 — NKJV
