As a group read through James chapter 4. Ask the group think about the importance of humility as they read.

• How would you describe false humility?
• How would you describe Biblical humility?
• Why does true humility take enormous amounts of courage?

One way to walk in humility is to give preference to others. Read Romans 12:10; Philippians 2:3-8.

• As a group discuss examples from our everyday lives of how we can give preference to others.

A huge part of humility is submitting to God. Humility begins by giving God first place in our decisions, our actions and our motivations.

Read Proverbs 3:5-10.

• How did James want us to submit?
• What area of your life do you have trouble submitting to God?
• How do we play God?
• What benefits can you see from walking in humility in James 4?

If you have time, have each member look up one of the following verses and share the benefit of humility found in the text.
