A Lesson On Faith And Stewardship From Abraham Print

WELCOME ICEBREAKER

What do you hope to be doing when you are 75?

WORSHIP

Choose songs that deal with God’s faithfulness.

WORD

Read Genesis 11:27 to 12:9.

To be a good steward of what God has given us will take faith. Perhaps no one is a better example of raw faith than Abraham. He was asked by God to leave his homeland and go not knowing what it would be like.

  • Ask the group if any have left their homeland to move to Canada or another country.
  • What emotions did you feel?
  • What do you think Abraham felt? What do you think Sarah felt about moving?
  • If you were Abraham, what would be hardest to believe about God’s promises?

Read Romans 10:17 and John 10:27-28.

  • How does hearing God’s word build our faith?
  • How does God speak to us today?

Read Hebrews 11:6 and James 2:26

  • How did Abraham exercise his faith? You should see three or four items from the passage in Genesis you read.
  • Why did Abraham travel around the land of Canaan and build altars there?
  • Give an example of where you have put action to your faith.

Read 2 Thessalonians 1:3; 1 Peter 1:7; and James 1:2-3

  • If we do not use our faith regularly, spiritual atrophy will set in. Discuss as a group how we can keep our spiritual faith muscle in shape.
  • How should we react to the tests of faith we have in life?

WORK

Home group leaders continue to pray for new leaders to be raised up in your group. Our goal is to finish the year with 50 home groups. There are a number of new people looking for a group to attend, but what are missing are new homes and leaders. Also, keep praying and expecting the empty seat to be filled with new comers. On Sundays I encourage you to continue to look for new people and invite them out to your group or introduce them to another home group suited for them.

By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.
