Courage Counts Print

WELCOME ICEBREAKER

What is the riskiest thing you have ever done? Or have you ever made a significant discovery that you initially kept to yourself, such as a wallet full of money, lost jewelry, etc.?

WORSHIP

Read Psalm 29:1-2 and then take ten minutes to really praise the Lord for His splendour and greatness!

WORD

The purpose of this meeting is to encourage others to be courageous. For some in our group it may be the courage to accept Christ as their Lord. For others it may be to stop being silent about the good news and tell others. And for others it may be courage to take on some challenge in life.

Read 2 Kings 7:1-10

  1. The well-known movie star, John Wayne, once said, “Courage is being scared to death but saddling up anyway.” There is no doubt that these four lepers who were outcasts of their society had much to fear, yet God used them to bring “salvation” to the rest of the people.

    • Do you agree with the logic of the lepers?
    • What did the lepers have to fear?
    • What pushed the lepers to make this decision?

In the same way the lepers were pushed to make a radical decision for their “salvation”, so we find ourselves being pushed out of our comfort zone to make a decision for Christ.

    • What factor(s) pushed you to step out of your comfort zone and make a decision for Christ?

  2. In verses 8 and 9 we read that the lepers had a great time eating and drinking. They hit the jackpot! Picking up as much silver, gold and clothing as they could carry, they went and hid it; not just once, but twice. In verse 9 they said to each other that what they were doing was not right.

    • What exactly were they doing that was not right?
    • How can you compare this to a Christian today who has freely received the treasures that we have in Jesus Christ?
    • What motivated them to go and tell others?
    • What motivates us to tell others about the love of Christ?
    • Read Romans 14:12 and 1 Corinthians 3:11-15. How does the fact that we will give an account of what we have impact our stewardship?

  3. A key question we must all ask ourselves is, why do I have what I have? How can I use what I have for the glory of God? Is my nice house just for “me and my four, no more?” Or is it to be used to host a home group, invite over the neighbours, and share the message of hope with my children’s friends?

    • What do you have right now that you feel you are sharing with others?
    • What do you have right now that you are silent about?
    • How would you rate your sharing of the Good News of Jesus Christ?

WORK

Lead anyone uncertain if they will go to heaven in the sinner’s prayer. Be bold to do this. Note in the past month we have seen people come to the Lord weekly in our home groups.

  • Pray for unsaved loved ones. If the group is large, break into groups of three.
  • Pray for other needs of the group.

Note: Please tell your home group next Friday we will have Tommy Thomas with us at the Celebrate Recovery kick-off night. Encourage your group to come out and support this key event.
