WELCOME ICEBREAKER Have you ever witnessed a hurricane, earthquake, fire, accident or war? What was it like to walk through the rubble? WORSHIP Choose songs that deal with the redemptive nature of God. WORD As a group read Nehemiah chapter four. Prior to reading explain to the group the rubble and broken wall represents the soulish areas or our life that might be damaged. Nehemiah represents the Holy Spirit send to help us. Sanballet is a picture of Satan who is against seeing our lives restored. Ask the group to be ready to comment on how they see these roles played out in the chapter. Discussion questions: - What similarities do you see in the role Nehemiah played to restored the broken walls of Jerusalem and what the Holy Spirit does in our lives?
- What caused the people to stop building and what caused them to return to work?
- Why do you think Sanballet was opposed to what Nehemiah was doing? Why is Satan opposed to what God is doing in your life?
- What weapons did Sanballet use and how do they compare to opposition you have in moving on with your life and being a complete person?
- Nehemiah told them to remember the Lord in verse 14. Discuss the importance of remembering God’s word. Some verse to refer to are: Isaiah 26-3, Psalm 1:1-3
- How did the people respond to the threat of the enemy? What does this say for us? What is our sword?
- What cause does Nehemiah give them to fight for? What cause(s) do we have to fight for?
- Is there an area of your life that needs to be rebuilt and how have you applied the principles of Nehemiah to the rebuilding process?
WORK Pray for those in your group that may be battling to restore areas in their lives.
