Walter personally experienced how leadership affected both struggling and successful teams. Walter’s career culminated in two trips to the Stanley Cup final, winning in 1986. President and Chief Executive Officer of Gospel Communications International

J. R. Whitby is an accomplished saxophonist and vocalist who has performed on the same stage with such notable artists as Roy Clark, Pat Boone, Lionel Hampton, and The Imperials. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from John Brown University with a Music Performance degree and toured with The Sound Generation traveling 125,000 miles and performing over 900 concerts during one three-year period.

He has performed in such diverse venues as the Presidential Prayer Breakfast in Washington DC, in Anaheim Stadium in California, in the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, the Orlando Arena in Florida and on television in Dallas bringing his unique musical stylings to thousands across the U.S. and Canada.

He is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Gospel Communications International, a non-profit, Christian media company in Muskegon, Michigan. He is also a member of the board of directors of Gospel Films, Inc., the Canadian sister ministry to GCI. Prior to joining GCI, Whitby ran a film distribution company with outlets in Tulsa and San Diego. He also did freelance production work in Tulsa for touring recording stars such as the Oak Ridge Boys, the Gatlin Brothers and Roy Clark.

He has been the executive in charge of production for multiple dramatic and documentary productions, the executive producer of two international films and the co-producer of FREE AT LAST – THE MOVIE with DC Talk.

J. R. has been the sound recording engineer on several documentary productions and has been a creative and script consultant for independent producers who have made films for GCI.

He and his wife Melody have been married for 35 years. They have two married daughters and four grandchildren.

Wednesday, April 6, 2005 — Dave Phillips

 

Dave is a former member and coach of Canada’s National Freestyle Ski team. He has also been a stunt man, professional ski show performer, business consultant and personal coach.

Dave broke two Guinness World records for ski duration. The first on snow by skiing continuously for over 83 hours (500 chairlift rides and over 340,000 vertical feet) and the second on water by skiing over 2140 KM in 57 hours (Almost from Vancouver to Winnipeg) with partner Ralph Hildebrand. Dave was also awarded the Bronze Medal for Bravery for his part in a life saving effort.

Currently he works as a speaker and a life and business coach for business leaders. Dave also does some work with Focus on the Family encouraging and building up Canadian Families. Over the past 15 years he has served on the boards of several public and private companies.

Dave is married to Ontario Native and Olympic Gold Medalist in Alpine Skiing, Kathy Kreiner-Phillips. They now live in Vancouver with their three Children, Nelson (12), Liam (10) & Michela (8).

Wednesday, January 5, 2005 — Mark Washington, BC Lions

 

Mark Washington, a 5-10, 180 pound defensive back from Temple Hills Maryland, had spent the previous six seasons with the Montreal Alouettes before signing with the Vancouver BC Lions. He attended Rutgers University where he was a team captain as a senior and majored in Industrial Engineering. As a junior, Mark was an All-Big East performer in 1994.

Mark talked on how his vibrant faith in Jesus Christ has given him an anchor in the turbulent world of professional football.
