WELCOME ICEBREAKER

What was the last family party you went to? What was the occasion?

WORSHIP

Sing songs that deal with the love of God. Or have the members in your group give a praise report of God’s goodness to them in the past week.

WORD

One of the passages we looked at this past Mother’s Day was the story of the prodigal son. Here we see the unconditional love that is needed for any family to succeed. In this lesson we will look at the unconditional love expressed to the son who left home.
As a group read Luke 15:11-32 and then discuss it with the following questions:

  1. In what ways do you see the father loving his son unconditionally?
  2. What caused the son to think about coming home?
  3. How did the father restore him?
  4. When do you think you should let children go their own way even if it will cause grief?
  5. What does this parable teach us about sin, repentance and God’s love?
  6. What in this story is most like your own?
  7. Which of the father’s qualities do you need most in your life?
    1. Share the goods
    1. Release - willingness for your parent(s) to let go
    1. A hug and a kiss
    1. Forgiveness and restoration
    1. Celebration – time with you
