PASTOR'S MESSAGE

God did not create us to be loners. God puts a whole bunch of people together and they form one really good ministry. We all have gifts, your gift might be different than mine but I need your gift and you need mine. We have been created to be dependent upon God and upon others. When we share our gifting and receive from the gifting of others then we become a whole people. We only obtain our wholeness to the degree that we respond and receive from those whom we do life with.

Thank you for your willing hearts to serve Jesus with us. It's a privilege to work together to reach this beautiful city of Vancouver with a message of hope through Jesus Christ. We are excited for all that God has ahead and all that He will do as we launch the Capital Stewardship Campaign.

Blessings

BUILD COMMUNITY
Coastal Victory Church has its first Sunday Service on September 11th 1994 with 40 people attending. Shortly after, the church leased its first office presence in the downtown core on the 1100 block of Melville Street.

Our goal was to reach the community in the downtown core with the love of God and show them that Christ has made a way for them to eternal life. We found as the congregation grew that home groups were a way to fulfil this goal. Coastal Victory Church soon became known as a friendly Church, a Church where you could receive prayer, and God's Word was preached without compromise. In the community the church was referred to as Coastal and so the name Coastal Church evolved.

In 1999 Pastor Dave Koop asked the Lord for a church building, and began to pursue the First Church of Christ Scientist located at 1160 West Georgia Street. After a number of seasons of Prayer and Fasting, we moved in on April 15th 2001, seven years to the day of our first gathering. The first year was on a lease; and again, after much Prayer and Fasting, we were able to purchase the building and finally have a permanent home in the heart of the city. We put a stake down when we purchased the facility. This was a major step within the community to confirm our commitment. We have settled on the fact that God intends to do a great work right in the middle of beautiful Vancouver and has asked us to obey the call.

EQUIP BELIEVERS
Christianity is not a spectator sport. Coastal Church is a place where people can be introduced to God and the Power of His resurrection, be equipped and have an avenue to allow Him to use them to fulfil the Great Commission. The building allows us not only to grow and serve each other, but to reach out to the less fortunate in our community with the message of God's Grace.

We believe Coastal Church plays a major part in Vancouver's heartbeat, as we are located in one of the most densely populated areas of Canada. We believe our building speaks of the faithfulness of God and the faith of His people. It will provide a safe place for the people of God to worship in freedom and truth and invite others to experience His Presence.

REACH EVERY GENERATION
God has never had only one generation in mind; every generation is on His heart. Before we began, critics told us that a downtown church would not attract families or children. However, we believe that the love of Jesus Christ knows no boundaries. It is our desire at Coastal Church to provide ministries of excellence to every generation.

The newly renovated Church will accommodate various ministries to all generations. We will not only enjoy Sunday services for all ages, and have seasonal children and youth events, but also open our doors to our city's heritage building tours, host special guest speakers and gospel singers, wedding and weekly outreach meetings such as Alpha and Celebrate Recovery. Our facility will also accommodate a growing Bible School, with students devoted to be trained in God's Word to be a light in this world. We will also house a preschool for our church family and the community we have been planted in.

REACH EVERY NATION
Our mandate from Jesus was simple: go out and preach the Good News to the world. Vancouver is home to countless nationalities. Our base here means that people from all over the world are calling Coastal Church their home. As we are able to equip people, they take what they've received and sow it back into the countries they originally come from. Coastal Church is a Missions church. We do not only support missions, we do missions. As we develop a strong base, our outreach opportunities will increase to more places, more needs more often.

LEAVE A HERITAGE
'Together We Can' is more than a slogan. Coastal Church is a church of vision with a mandate. Our calling is not to build a facility. It's to reach people with the Good News of Jesus Christ and equip people to grow and do the work of the ministry. They building is only a tool, but a highly visible one that will speak of the Presence of God in the heart of our city.

HOW AND WHEN
This campaign is a 156-week plan (three years). During this time we are believing to raise 3 million dollars, which will complete our building renovation costs and pay off the remainder of our building mortgage. We will always have challenges but God is the one steering the ship and as our Captain, He sets the time and place for our arrival.

This is the simple part. Everyone does their share and we will see God's faithfulness. TOGETHER WE CAN is not only the slogan it is the HOW. Again, our calling is not to build a church, our calling is to minister. When we respond to what God is calling us to do, God will provide us with the ability to do it. Your opportunity to respond will be at the Christmas banquet on Sunday, December 4th. The how is simple, just continue to love God, listen to His voice, do what He says and we will, by faith, see the goodness of the Lord in fulfilling this challenge

CAMPAIGN SCRIPTURE

"Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we could ask or think according to the power that works in us." Ephesians 3:20

PRAYER

We are requesting your contribution to a collection of reflections, revelations, and/or scriptures that the Holy Spirit brings to hearts during our prayer times. These responses are to be collected to produce a keepsake of this season in the life of Coastal Church. What you share will be included to serve as a source of encouragement and a testimonial to God's faithful guidance.

Here are some examples of how you can respond:

  • In this Campaign, God revealed Himself to me as:
  • Defining words that summarize what God spoke:
  • The highlight of this time spent in His Presence:
  • God spoke to me through this Scripture passage:
  • I would like to express thanksgiving and praise to God for:

We are praying and believing together for fresh impartation of vision for:

  • the receiving of seed to sow; for businesses to prosper and members to flourish
  • reaping the harvest of our generation and impacting our community as the gospel is shared
  • covenant blessing; an abundance that overflows to bless others

We ask the Holy Spirit to bring deeper revelation of:

  • what biblical stewardship is and how each one is to respond
  • the need to work together in unity to walk in His commanded blessing
  • God as the All-Sufficient, El Shaddai, our Jehovah Jireh
  • our Victor's defeat over every opposing spirit
  • our privileges and responsibilities as steward's of His provision
  • the significance of each one participating

We pray that:

  • God continues to grace our Pastors' Dave and Cheryl and Stewardship Campaign members to discern His voice and follow His leading in the power of His Spirit for His glory; that the messages to be communicated would be received in the spirit intended.
  • as we demonstrate His love to our community, that our outreach ministries will bring lasting transformation and deliverance
  • above all, that God be pleased and His purposes fulfilled

TOGETHER WE CAN
QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

What was the decision process for having a stewardship campaign at this time?

  • This was decided by the pastor and the board of directors. It became apparent to the board that due to the increase in construction costs in Vancouver, the amount of funds the church received from the Heritage Revitalization Agreement would not cover the renovations costs. The decision to run the campaign at this time was necessary to have funds available to pay for the contractor in 2006. Our present financing with the bank also required we present a projection of support.

How does this campaign fit in with the overall vision of the church?

  • This campaign will allow us to free up our resources to focus on other needs in the church and community.

What is the schedule of events?

  • We are planning another banquet for 2007.

Why are we paying off the building in three years, why not have a longer financing period?

  • We do not want to pay any more money to the banks for financing than necessary. Our entire board of directors and advisors are all in agreement with this. We don't know what the future holds, but the Lord does and He has impressed on us the importance of having this debt paid off.

What will be done with finances that are presently used to pay the principle and interest?

  • The finances will be used to add more pastoral and support staff to meet the needs of our growing congregation. There are also projects waiting to be developed that can't be released until we take care of this.
How will the money be accounted for so that it is spent only on the building?
  • Funds that are given for the building are kept on a separate ledger and reviewed by the board of directors and accountants. Our church is an associated member of the Canadian Council of Christian Charities which requires fiscal responsibility.

What happens if the church reaches the goal of three million before the three-year commitment?

  • The congregation will be notified and asked to redirect their giving or be released from their commitment.

Why are we spending money to put on a banquet and buy campaign supplies when it could be used for the project or helping the poor?

  • It is essential that we communicate the vision as clearly as possible and celebrate God's goodness. We want to follow the Biblical example of getting together to celebrate what God has done and move ahead together. In the Old Testament we see this practiced (Deut. 14:22-26) and in the New Testament we see Jesus and the early church often invested in being together and sharing the vision. (Acts 2:44-47, Mark 14:12-26)

Why did we hire an advisor for this campaign when God had helped us do it on our own up to now?

  • We have always had advisors and counselors on every step of the journey. In the same manner we hire good lawyers and accountants to protect the interest of the church it is necessary to hire wise counsel and help for this venture.

What happens if I can't keep the commitment that I have made?

  • This is a faith commitment you make between the Lord and you. You will be reminded through out the three years to keep that commitment but you will never be forced to continue. We only ask that you communicate to the church that you are not going to continue after praying about it.

When do I make my commitment?

  • The campaign is underway, and commitments can be made at any time until December 28, 2008.

How long is the commitment for?

  • Three years.

Why should I fill out the commitment card?

  • In order for us to measure the total response. This is necessary for our banking and fiscal planning.

Is this part of my regular tithes that I give to the church?

  • No, this is an over and above offering.

Why is every person invited to participate in giving?

  • As much as every farmer wants an opportunity to sow we believe that every believer would like a chance to participate in this window of opportunity. Also it is a picture of unity to our church, the community and a threat to our enemy.

How much am I expected to give?

  • Your giving should be a reflection of how God has blessed you.

How should I determine what to give?

  • We are trusting that after praying the Holy Spirit will guide you in your giving.

What ways are there to give?

  • Besides monthly cash giving you may participate through property, stocks and bonds, inheritance, corporate matched giving and other avenues.

Is my gift tax deductible?

  • Yes.

How will those who join the church in the future get involved in the campaign?

  • They will be presented with the opportunity to participate in the Equipping Bases.

Is it possible to set up independent entrepreneurial ventures in addition to the main campaign to raise finances?

  • Yes. Whatever people can do to reach the overall goal of the campaign will be appreciated.
