Wednesday, May 7, 2008 — Lyle Green

Football player for the BC Lions

In high school, Green played basketball, soccer, and track and field. He grew up idolizing fellow Ontarian Wayne Gretzky before emulating Dallas Cowboy running back Emmitt Smith. During his spare time, he enjoys reading, golf, playing other sports, and watching The Matrix. His most memorable sports moment to date is his first pro touchdown versus Ottawa during the 2002 season. His favourite charity is the SOS Children's Village, an organization that helps find homes for children. Lyle is also a two-time recipient of the club's Lionheart Award given annually to the player most heavily involved in Lions community programs. Lyle spends the off-season in the Vancouver area.

Started all 18 games for his sixth consecutive season as well as the West Final. Excelling as the primary blocker for RB Joe Smith, Lyle is also a valuable special teams player. He scored his sixth career TD on Sep 29/07 vs Calgary on a 2-yard pass from Jarious Jackson in a 42-9 win over Calgary and carried the ball a total of 3 times for 18 yards last season along adding 4 receptions for another 32 yards.

Lyle Green is deeply committed to his faith in Jesus Christ. He is a top performer as a football player and off the field he is a top performer for his Lord and Savior. Lyle's life is not defined by how he does in the game of football but it is defined by how he lives out his faith in the game of life.
