Read Mark 14:1-11

In order to help us understand this woman’s extravagant act of love discuss the lesson using the following 5 questions.

1. Who Was This Woman?
1. See John’s account in John 12:1-7.
2. Why Did She Do It?
1. How do this woman’s actions first strike you? Misguided, wasteful, honouring, out of place, extravagant, etc.
2. Why was her heart overflowing with love?
3. What did Mary love to do more than anything? – Sit at Jesus feet.
3. Where Did She Do It?
1. What was the setting?
2. What do you think the culture of the time would dictate and how did she challenge it?
3. What was the reaction? Who was the most upset and why?
4. When Did She Do It? Mark 14:8
1. What was the significance of the timing of this?
2. Do you have an example of when you loved someone spontaneously and they didn’t expect it?
3. Discuss the importance of showing love to others when we have the opportunity.
5. What Did She Do?
1. Why was this act so radical?
2. Why was it sacrificial?
3. Why did Jesus say that what she did would be preached as a memorial to her?
4. What beautiful thing would you like to do for Jesus?
