For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. 2Cor. 10:4,5 (NKJV)

Strategy for the spiritual fight against addictions:

  1. Come out of hiding.
    1. You'll never succeed in life if you try to hide your sins.  Confess them.  Give them up.  Then God will show mercy to you. Proverbs 28:13 (GNB)
    2. I heard you, so I hid. I was afraid because I was naked.” – Adam – Genesis 3:10 (NLT)
    3. Why do we live in denial?
    4. What brings us out of hiding?

  2. Admit you need help.
    1. We escaped like a bird caught in a hunter’s trap. The trap was broken, and we escaped. Our help is in the name of the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth. Psalm 124:7,8 (GWORD)
    2. For if you live according to [the dictates of] the flesh, you will surely die. But if through the power of the [Holy] Spirit you are [habitually] putting to death (making extinct, deadening) the [evil] deeds prompted by the body, you shall [really and genuinely] live forever. Romans 8:13 (AMP)
    3. So I advise you to live according to your new life in the Holy Spirit. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. Galatians 5:16 (NLT)
    4. For I can do everything with the help of Christ who gives me the strength I need.  Philippians 4:13 (NLT)

  3. Daily choose life.
    1. Understand the leave and cleave principle.
    2. Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, that you and your descendants might live! Deuteronomy 30:19 (NLT)
    3. Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5,6 (NKJV)
    4. Life is a series of decisions and knowledge that will determine how you make decisions.
    5. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. John 8:32 (NLT)
    6. Let God’s word be the final authority - all arguments cease here.
    7. But you, Timothy, belong to God; so run from all these evil things, and follow what is right and good. Pursue a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness. 1Timothy 6:11 (NLT)
    8. Dear friends, since you are foreigners and temporary residents in the world, I’m encouraging you to keep away from the desires of your corrupt nature. These desires constantly attack you. 1Pet. 2:11 (GWORD)
    9. I will set nothing wicked before my eyes, I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not cling to me. Psa. 101:3 (NKJV)

  4. Build a support system.
    1. Hold yourself accountable.
    2. Two people can accomplish more than twice as much as one; they get a better return for their labor. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But people who are alone when they fall are in real trouble. Ecclesiastes 4:9,10 (NLT)

  5. Reward yourself.
