To guide us God gave us is His word — the Holy Bible. No other book in history is considered the primary authority in dealing with people and situations. Most of our civil laws were Bible-based. Statements like “pride comes before a fall,” and “love your neighbour as you love yourself,” are quoted verbatim, even by people who have never read the Bible. That's why an appropriate acronym for BIBLE is “Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth.” Also, The Bible is very much alive. Hebrews 4:12 says “The Word of God is living and active...it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” We cannot study the Bible without finding something in it that speaks to our life today. It's as if God is speaking directly to our hearts. When we read His Word expecting to find an answer, God's Spirit sheds light on the scripture and brings its meaning to life. Just knowing scripture isn't enough for us to feel entirely fulfilled, but we're almost there. The Sin Factor Often when we read the Bible we don't understand what God is saying right away. The reason for this is that we don't automatically have a right relationship with God. We have a natural desire to turn away from God. This desire, passed down through the generations, is called “sin.” “Sin” is an archery term, which means, “to miss the mark”. Because we are naturally disobedient to God, we miss the target He's designed us to hit. Romans 3:23 says “...all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” When we acknowledge that we're not living our lives toward God's purpose, we are left with the decision of what we can possibly do to get our lives back on course. This is where Jesus comes in. The Jesus Factor
