Faith in the Storms of Life |
|
WELCOME ICEBREAKER Share a time when you were caught in a storm. WORSHIP Psalm 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. Psalm 46:2 So we will not fear, even if earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea. Psalm 46:3 Let the oceans roar and foam. Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge! WORD As a group read Mark 4:35-41. Discussion questions: - What stands out to you in this account of Jesus calming the sea?
- Jesus gave them His word that they would cross over. What promise of God are you holding onto in your life?
- How was Jesus able to sleep in the storm?
- What did Jesus expect the disciples to do?
- The disciples, who were experienced sailors on this lake, feared they would die in this storm. Later we read the experience of Jesus rebuking the wind and calming the sea terrified them. Discuss how we can replace our fear or awe of the storms in our life with an awe of God’s delivering power.
- What tone of voice do you think Jesus used when He said, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?”
- Angry
- Scolding
- Disappointed
- Compassionate
- How would you rate your life today on the storm chart?
- Smooth sailing – things are going well
- Choppy water – storm is brewing
- Boat is sinking – bailing water
- Storm is past – the sun is shining again
WORK Pray for those in your group that may be experiencing a storm in their life.
