WELCOME ICEBREAKER What do you like most about the city of Vancouver? WORSHIP Home groups leaders I again encourage you to use the praise and worship DVD’s for your worship time. All around the world today people will meet in small groups and worship Jesus. Some will sing quietly to avoid being arrested, some will sing in crowded quarters, some will sing in prison and some will sing in a high rise in the heart of Vancouver. WORD Cultural trends tend to be generated in the city and flow outward to the rest of society. What is a cultural trend that you think was started or promoted in Vancouver? Jesus by His grace has taken us out of the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light. His light has become our light, and He tells us that we are the light of the world. The church becomes a city within a city, a dynamic counterculture that brings light. It is Christ in us that brings hope to the world. We are the temple of the Holy Spirit. The light MUST come from the believer; there is no other source! The darkness we often see in the culture around us is an opportunity to shine bright. God wants our light on a hill, in other words get our lives in a position so people can see the light. Note it should give light to all in the HOUSE. Our first sphere of influence is our house or those that are closed to us. Have each member of your group read one of the following verses and share what they feel it says about us being the light of the world: - Psalm 18:28
- Proverbs 20:27
- Matthew 5:13-16
- John 1:4,5
- John 8:12
- 2 Corinthians 4:3-7
- 1 Peter 2:9
- 1 John 1:5-7
Jeremiah told the captives in Babylon that they were to pray and work for the peace of that city. Read Jeremiah 29:1-13 as an example of God calling His people to be a light in a dark city. How would this letter have encouraged the people? WORK Pray for the needs of those in your group. Pray for the new home groups that are starting. Also please contact Jen Neuman if you are able to help with the dessert night this Sunday.
