The Powerful Name of Jesus Print

WELCOME ICEBREAKER

Share with the group the meaning of your name.

WORSHIP

Sing songs that speak of the name of Jesus.

WORD

Have the group read Acts 3:1-16 and 4:1-26 and ask them to note the references to the name of Jesus and the effect of His name.

  • Why do you think the religious people of the day were so threatened by the name of Jesus? Why did they object to what happened?
  • Do you find people uncomfortable with the name of Jesus? If so why?
  • Peter says in Acts 3:16 that it was the name of Jesus, and more specifically faith in the name that healed the man. What does it mean to have faith in His name and how can we have this faith?
  • What did Peter and John use the name of Jesus for here and what did it accomplish?
  • What impresses you about the believer’s prayer and what can we learn from it?
  • We see the disciples in Acts 4:20 & 5:25-29 choosing to teach on the name of Jesus even though they were ordered by the officials not to. Under what circumstances should a Christian disobey civil or religious authorities?

For further study if time permits have the group look up the following verses and determine the use of the name of Jesus mentioned.
