WELCOME ICEBREAKER

In your work place or school what do you think people worry about the most?

WORSHIP

In this lesson we look at the prayer of worship. Ensure you take time to spend in the presence of God through worship, encouraging the group that it is not dependent on the way we feel. Read Psalm 95:1-7 if you don't have the opportunity to sing.

WORD

In Luke 11:1 the disciples came to Jesus and asked Him to teach them to pray. Of all the things they could have had Him teach them, they wanted to learn how to pray.

  • Why do you think they asked Jesus to teach them to pray?

In Ephesians 6:18 the Amplified version tells us to pray with all manner of prayer. There are different types of prayers. Prayer is simply communicating with God. At times we need to communicate with God by asking for help, other times we communicate with Him by praising Him, still other times we communicate on behalf of others. In order to pray effectively we need to learn the application of these different types of prayer. In this lesson we will look at the prayer of commitment and the prayer of worship.

As a group read Acts 12:1-19

  • What should Peter have been worried about that night?
  • As a group discuss what you think his prison conditions were like?
  • How was it possible for Peter to actually sleep?
  • Read what he wrote later on in 1 Peter 5:7
  • See also Psalm 4:8, 37:5, 127:2, Proverbs 3:24
  • What do you have to commit to the Lord before you go to sleep?
  • How do we roll or cast our worries onto the Lord? Reflect on verse 12.
  • How do you think worry affects your prayers?

Ask the group to be transparent and share one area of their lives that they worry about.

Read Acts 16:16-34

  • How did Paul and Silas deal with the stress of their situation?
  • As a group discuss how worshipping God affects our lives and those around us.
  • When do you find it easy to worship God? What are your favourite worship songs?
  • When do you find it challenging to worship God?
