Praying When Trouble Hits |
|
WELCOME ICEBREAKER What where you doing when you heard the news of the World Trade Center disaster on September 11, 2001? WORSHIP If possible pick songs that talk about the name of the Lord. If you don’t have a song leader another option is to have someone in your group read Psalm 116. WORD Read Romans 10:13 - Meditate on this verse, look at it from all the angles, take it word by word and as a group share what you can learn from it.
- What are some reasons people don’t call upon the name of the Lord?
- When have you called upon His name and been saved?
The Greek word for saved is SOZO. The Vines Expository Dictionary gives this word the following meaning: - Material and temporal deliverance from danger and suffering
- Made whole from sickness
- Spiritual and eternal salvation granted immediately by God to those who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ
- Deliver from the bondage of sin
- Deliverance of saints at second coming of Christ
- Inclusively all the blessings bestowed by God
In the New Testament this Greek word SOZO is translated into various other words, such as made whole or well, healed and delivered. As a group look up the following verses and discover what the Lord will save us from: - Matthew 8:25
- Mark 13:20
- Matthew 9:22
- Mark 5:34
- James 5:15
- James 1:21
- John 10:9
- 2 Timothy 4:18
- 1 Corinthians 3:15
WORK Ask your group in what area of your life do you need to call upon the Lord? Pray for the needs in your group.
