WORSHIP

All around the world today people will meet in small groups and worship Jesus. Some will sing quietly to avoid being arrested, some will sing in crowded quarters, some will sing in prison and some will sing in a high rise in the heart of Vancouver.

WORD

Jesus was hours away from His death and physically leaving His disciples.

Jesus had just demonstrated servant leadership by washing their feet, Judas had left to go and betray Jesus and Jesus knew He was hours away from a terrible death. The disciples didn’t understand it all but they knew enough to be deeply troubled. In the last conversation before His death Jesus would answer their questions. Peter is the disciple that starts off the questions.

As a group read: John 13:36-14:18.
    • What stands out to you in this passage?
    • What do you think was going through the disciples mind at this time?
    • Jesus explains He is going to the Father to prepare a place for them. He would appear to the disciples again after His resurrection and then be taken up to heaven. Have your group read the following verses regarding heaven:
      • 1 Corinthians 2:9
      • Hebrews 11:13-16
      • Philippians 3:20
      • Acts 1:9-11
    • What do you look forward to about heaven?
      • Seeing your mansion.
      • Seeing Jesus.
      • Seeing loved ones.
      • Being free from the trials of this world.
      • Other.
    • Jesus made powerful claims as to whom He was. As a group fill in these claims:
      • John 6:35 – I am _______________
      • John 8:12 – I am _______________
      • John 10:9 – I am _______________
      • John 10:11 – I am _______________
      • John 11:25 – I am _______________
      • John 14:6 – I am _______________
      • John 8:58 – Before Abraham was _______________
    • Why did the disciples believe these claims?
    • Which of these are sayings are hard to accept today? Why?
    • What gives you faith to believe them?
