Jesus Talks with a Desperate Parent |
|
WELCOME ICEBREAKER What was the most serious illness you had as a child? WORSHIP Focus on the Lord and on pleasing Him rather than on performing or being concerned what others think of you. When a grandchild wants to sing grandpa a song, it is the pureness of the heart that brings pleasure. The grandfather doesn’t compare the grandchild to an opera singer; rather he simply delights in the singing. The same holds true for our heavenly Father. “You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For you created everything, and it is for your pleasure that they exist and were created.” Revelation 4:11 WORD As a group read John 4:43-54. You may choose to have members of your group act out the conversation between Jesus, the nobleman and the servants. Discussion questions: - What has given this father hope that Jesus can heal his son?
- In verse 49 and 50 to what degree is Jesus saying “no” to the nobleman’s request? Why does Jesus do this? How can this be applied to some of the answers to prayer you receive?
- What can we learn about faith from verse 50? Check out Hebrews 11:1, 2 Cor. 5:7
- When did the father receive confirmation of his faith?
- In your mind how to you see the reunion of the father and son?
- What does this family receive besides a healed son? How do you think this event changed their lives?
- What does this miracle tell you about Jesus?
- When you bring your problems to God (such as sickness in your family), do you tend to accept His word or keeping worrying?
WORK Encourage your group that we can pray for those who are a great distance from us.
Encourage your group to memorize John 4:24. Ask them to read to the end of John chapter 8 for next Sunday.
