Jesus at a Party Print

WELCOME ICEBREAKER

What was the last wedding you attended and did it have a highlight for you?

WORSHIP

Psalm 103:1-5
Praise the Lord, my soul!
Praise his holy name, all that is within me.
Praise the Lord, my soul, and never forget all the good he has done:
He is the one who forgives all your sins,
the one who heals all your diseases,
the one who rescues your life from the pit,
the one who crowns you with mercy and compassion,
the one who fills your life with blessings so that you become young again like an eagle.

WORD

As a group read John 2:1-11. Then have two members read aloud as a play the brief conversation between Jesus and His mother.

Mary: “They have no wine.”
Jesus: “Woman what does your concern have to do with Me? My hour has not yet come.”
Mary: “Whatever He says to do, do it.”
Jesus: “Fill the water pots with water.”
Jesus: “Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast.”

Why did Mary turn to Jesus?

What did it mean to the bridegroom and his family to run out of wine?

See John 12:23,24; 13:1; 17:1,2 for an understanding of what “hour” Jesus is referring to. What do you think the connection is here between His mother asking Him for wine and His remark the “hour” has not yet come?

How can Jesus’ mothers remark to the servants be an admonition to you?

Verse 11 says this was a sign. What do you think the sign pointed to?

How do you feel the bridegroom felt when he had heard about the new wine?

What do you think these disciples who had just joined up with Jesus learn about Him after the wedding was over?

Jesus said: “He who has seen Me, has seen the Father”. (John 14:9) What can you learn about the Father from what you see Jesus do here?

WORK

It is never the same after you pray. Pray for the needs in your group.

Encourage your group to memorize John 1:14. I encourage you to say it all together out of a translation you all agree on. Ask them to read to the end of John chapter 3 for Sunday.
