WELCOME ICEBREAKER Share a time when you where thankful for good medication and or doctors. WORSHIP Isaiah 61:3 To all who mourn in Israel, he will give beauty for ashes, joy instead of mourning, praise instead of despair. For the LORD has planted them like strong and graceful oaks for his own glory. WORD God has given us a powerful antidote (medicine taken to counteract a particular poison, something that neutralizes an unpleasant feeling or situation) to combat the poison of rejection. Like any medicine it has to be taken to do any good. In this home group lesson we are going to discuss how Christ suffered rejection for us, the affects of rejection on our lives and God's remedy for it. As a group list some ways we experience rejection in our everyday lives. What do you think the symptoms of rejection are? How would you spot someone who struggles with rejection? As a group look up and discuss the following verses to on how Jesus was rejected: Mark 6:1-3, 8:31, John 1:11, John 7:5, Isaiah 53:3, Mark 15:34. The fear of being rejected can cause us to live our live to please people doing things we wish we never did. What do the following verses have to say about being a people pleaser: - Proverbs 29:25
- Galatians 1:10
- Colossians 3:23
- John 12:42,43
- 1 Thessalonians 2:4
Joy is the oil that lubricates life in the hard times. It is a strength from within that will counteract the affects of rejection. Look up the following verses: - Philippians 3:1 (note we need to hear over and over to rejoice in the Lord, and it keeps us safe)
- Isaiah 61:3
- James 1:2
- Romans 5:3
- Hebrews 12:3
- Acts 16:22-25
- 1 Peter 1:6-8
Discuss as a group how a person can practically rejoice if they are experiencing rejection. WORK Please remind your group about water baptism on Sunday, April 23 at 3:00PM. If you have members who have not been baptized they need to fill out a response card and return it this Sunday. Please be ready to review baptism with them and answer any questions.
