WELCOME ICEBREAKER Who do you think has prayed the most for you? WORSHIP Encourage everyone to really put their heart into the time of singing. If you aren’t at a place to sing read a Psalm and encourage the group to close their eyes and focus on Jesus as you read. WORD As a group read Acts 8:26-40. Discussion questions: - What strikes you about this passage?
- Prior to Phillip’s trip along the desert road to Gaza he was enjoying great success in Samaria. What does this say about his leadership abilities? Has God ever asked you interrupted your plans, asked you to surrender your “rights”?
- Why do you think the Holy Spirit would ask Phillip to leave the hundreds he was influencing in Samaria to talk to only one man?
- How did Phillip approach the Ethiopian? What barriers did he cross?
- If you were the Ethiopian how would you have reacted if someone came up to you and offered to explain what you were reading?
- At what point did Phillip actually join the Ethiopian? (verse 31 - only after he was asked)
- In verse 35 we read that Phillip began at “this scripture”, he connected with the man where he was at and went from there. What can we learn from this principle?
- Why do you think the Ethiopian asked to be baptized right away?
- Who along the road of life has been there like Phillip to show you what the scriptures mean?
WORK We know from 2 Corinthians 4:4 satan blinds us from seeing the truth. Paul gave us a classic prayer in Ephesians 1:15-19 that reverses this effect. Ask each one in your group to give the name of a person they know of that seems blinded to the Gospel. Then pray this prayer for them. You can do this as a group for all of them or individually.
