The last words of Jesus on the cross reveal where His heart was at but they also tell us a great deal about how we should live our lives. There are seven recorded sayings: if there were more, we don’t know but it is interesting that there are seven, a number that represents completeness.
“For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him” (John 3:17). He emphasizes that belief in Him leads to eternal life, while rejection results in remaining under God’s wrath. Jesus came not to condemn the world, for it was already in a state of condemnation. The early church was growing to the seams and the apostles found themselves in a crucial situation. Being just twelve of them appointed as apostles of Jesus, they were unable to minister the Word, something they were chosen to do, while meeting practical needs of the widows. Based on what they learned from Jesus, they solved this issue by encouraging others to serve and lead in a supporting role. The outcome was extraordinary and is now the biblical recipe we follow in our local church so we can fulfill the Great Commission!
Being generous is a desirable character trait and beneficial to your physical and mental health. We are still in the beginning stages of studying the Book of Acts, but one thing is already certain: If you and I are going to do something great for God, it will attract opposition from the enemy. God is very likely to set you up in a place around people that have rejected faith in order to perform His miracle. This could be in your home, your workplace, your school, and your city. Repentance relieves the burden of our sin, guilt, and shame. When we repent and believe in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, we receive peace with God and the peace of God.
