Urban Kids Camp 2017

A DAY CAMP FOR KIDS ENTERING GRADES 1-6

This year we’re diving into the theme ‘I Am _____’ according to Ephesians 2:10! Everyday will have a fun, foundational and powerful lesson about our identity as children of God. High energy games, exciting workshops and of course an opportunity to make new friends are all waiting for You this summer at Urban Kids Camp!

Our Aims

Our aim is for Kingdom Explorers to be a place where children:

FEEL SAFE
In each of our classrooms a security tag system is in place for drop off and pick up

HAVE FUN
Through age appropriate toys, games, object lessons, dramas, music and crafts

MAKE FRIENDS
That will hopefully last a lifetime as they build community and learn to encourage one another

LEARN
The Word of God and the love of God through exciting age appropriate lessons that leads them not only to salvation, but also guides them in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ

SHARE
Their gifts/talents, their stories, their faith, and the love of Christ to those around them in the classroom and beyond the borders of the church

Our vision is to raise up a generation of children that will seek their God given Kingdom Mission and impact our world for Jesus!

Common Questions

You can be confident that your child is well-cared for while you enjoy one of our weekend services

What if my child has special needs?

We believe all children are valued equally and created in God’s image. We are honoured to serve children with special needs, and want to provide an environment where every child can have an encounter with God.

Please let us know by e-mailing jchen@coastalchurch.org if you are planning to visit a weekend service so we can arrange to meet you and your child, and find out how we can provide the best support.

Why do we have to check in our children?

It helps the Kingdom Explorer team with names and identifying which group children should be in. It means that we have a list of who is in which group should we ever need it on a weekend service, like a class list of names. It also gives us a record of who has attended Kingdom Explorers, when and how often, which is useful for planning our services and contacting parents, and organizing special events etc.

Children will receive a name tag with an ID number and the parent will receive a tag with the same ID number. This is to make it easier for us to know that the right person is picking up children at the end of a service.

If I want to have prayer ministry at the end of a service do I need to collect my child first?

We encourage all parents to feel free to go forward for prayer ministry at the end of the service. If possible, we would appreciate it if you could arrange for at least one parent to come pick up your child after the service.

Does my child get to bring anything home?

This will vary depending on their age group and what hey have done that particular service. However, your children will often have a craft, worksheet and/or parent page to bring home.

What do I do if my child is unhappy in their class?

Please let us know if, for whatever reason, your child isn’t enjoying him or herself on at a service. We endeavour to make our classes as fun and accessible as possible, so if your child isn’t having a good time or understanding what we are doing, we would love to know. It’s best to speak to one of the Kingdom Explorer leaders/teachers at the end of the service or e-mail jchen@coastalchurch.org during the week to arrange a time to chat.

Do you have classroom rules?

We generally have 3 Kingdom Laws in our classrooms: love others, speak life and expect miracles!

Is my child given anything to eat or drink during service?

Nursery and Walkers are usually given Baby Mum Mums. Toddlers and Preschool children are usually given Arrowroot crackers or Fishy Crackers. Depending on the service, School Age children may be given a snack such as popcorn, candy, or peanut-free cookies. Allergies are always checked before snacks are given out. Candy is quite seldom. We encourage children to hold onto their candy until the end of the service so permission to eat it may be received from the parents.

Can I stay with my child if they aren’t settled?

Yes, you are very welcome to stay with your child. We would encourage you to remain in the room with your child, instead of taking them into church with you, so they can become comfortable with the room setting and make friends with the other children in their age group.

How will you let me know if my child isn’t settled and I need to come get him or her?

Parent/Guardian mobile numbers are received and recorded upon first time registration. When parents need to be contacted for emergencies or because their child is not settling in, a text will be sent to them with the child’s ID number or with a friendly request to come attend to their child. With that in mind, parents are encouraged to leave their mobile phones on vibrate.

What checks do volunteers go through?

All children’s ministry volunteers go through and must be cleared for a police criminal record check process, with the vulnerable sector, that is, with children and the elderly included.

How can I help more?

We have a fantastic team who serve faithfully at our weekend services and even in the office during the week to prepare lesson materials, as well as for our events. If you are interested in joining the team and have a passion for seeing children become fully devoted to God, then we would love to speak with you! Please e-mail jchen@coastalchurch.org.
