COVID-19 protocols and procedures
Coastal Preschool has introduced new health and safety guidelines as directed by Work Safe BC and Vancouver Coastal Health. These new measures include ensuring your children are healthy and well to come into the preschool classroom, as well as extra cleaning and disinfecting measures.
How does pickup & drop-off work?
Parents are asked to drop off their children at the Georgia Street entrance at 8:30 am and promptly pick them up at the end of each class at 12:30 pm. If an alternative person is picking up your child, the Director must be informed before the end of your child's class with the person's name, and they must be prepared to show ID if they are not known to the Preschool staff.
What ages qualify for preschool?
Your child will begin his/her preschool year when he/she turns 2 1/2 years old and must have his/her 3rd birthday prior to December 31st of that year.
When is tuition due?
Coastal Preschool requires tuition to be made on a monthly basis, due the 1st day of each month. Payments can be made by cash, cheque, visa or automated debit. Any NSF cheques will be charged with a $25.00 fee.
Do you have a withdrawal policy?
One month’s written notice is required. This policy is effective on the last day of the month and no partial fees will be refunded.
How do you celebrate birthdays?
If your child's birthday falls on a day they are in preschool, we sing "Happy Birthday" to them and ask them some fun birthday questions. We kindly ask that you do not bring birthday cakes or treats for the class, due to allergies. We also ask that discretion is used if handing out invitations for your child’s birthday party so as to avoid any hurt feelings within the class.
Are there any planned events during the year?
Throughout the year we will inform you of upcoming events that your child would be invited to be involved in during their scheduled class time such as: Christmas Program & Graduation/Closing Program. We look forward to brainstorming new and creative ideas for such events, as with the current covid-19 situation we will follow the guidelines and protocols accordingly.
What if my child isn't feeling well?
In order to maintain a hygienic and healthy centre, we ask for your co operation. If your child shows any visual signs of illness (i.e. fever, coughing, runny nose, diarrhea, sneezing), please keep your child at home. If your child develops signs of illness while at the Preschool, you will be notified and asked to pick up your child.
Do you have an immunization policy?
Coastal Preschool requires all children to have an up-to-date record of their immunizations (i.e. DPT, Polio, MMR). If you have any questions, please consult your physician or the public health unit on the immunization programs available.
What clothing is appropriate for preschool?
During Preschool, we will be enjoying fun, active and sometimes messy play activities! Please dress your child accordingly in clothes that are both comfortable as well as functional. Indoor shoes must be worn at all times. Please label all items of clothing, including shoes, sweaters, coats, mittens, hats, etc.
Will my child need to bring snacks?
Each child will need to bring his or her own snacks from home to school. We encourage snacks that are healthy and appealing. Some examples are:
- Fruits (fresh or dried)
- Vegetables (washed and cut)
- Cheese or yogurt tubes
- Crackers (wheat or rice)
- Labeled water bottle
We strongly discourage candy, fruit roll-ups, iced donuts or cakes and ask that no juice be brought to the school.
Will my child be disciplined?
We guide children gently and respectfully but also establish clear, consistent and simple limits. This includes reminders of rules, safety and discussion with respect to natural or logical consequences. We purpose to be aware of how children are interacting and assist by offering positive reinforcement of desirable behaviour. Physical discipline is not an option. Children will be encouraged to use their own words to express their needs and thoughts to both the teachers and the other children. We also purpose to achieve and maintain harmony within the classroom by praying for one another.
What safety precautions do you take?
We value your child and the safety of all the children in the Preschool. We maintain the following procedures:
- Health, building and fire inspections
- Fire drills
- Earthquake survival kit on the premises (each child is to have a personal comfort kit provided by parents). You will be provided with more information prior to your child’s first stay.
- No smoking permitted on the property.
