How to Achieve Supernatural Peace
We can all agree that our world today could use more peace. When we turn on the TV or visit any social media platform, what we mostly hear about are the wars that are taking place in almost every part of the world. Whether between countries or in civil wars, nations are fighting for power, political control, and territory and resources, while political parties compete to enact their laws. We can also see that religious groups/countries are fighting for sacred places and their homeland, which then turns into religious persecution. We can also witness inner wars within humanity. People live in anxiety because worries and distress weigh them down, or they feel restless due to greed and are constantly driven by a desire for more, and because of it, people feel unsettled in mind and in spirit. So how can we find true peace in a world filled with chaos? And not a temporary peace, but rather a supernatural peace that will carry us through the ups and downs and the storms of life? In this Blog, I would like to share a few points that have personally helped me, as well as many people around the world, to experience supernatural peace even when facing life’s conflicts and storms. However, before we delve into the solution, we must first address the issue.
In 1 John 5:19, we read, “We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.” John is warning us who is in control of the world. The world influenced and controlled by Satan is driven by desire, lust, pride, greed, love of money, power, control, and opposition to everything that God has called good (1 John 2:16). It is also written “that we should take heart because He has overcome the world” (John 16:33). This verse is like how we say a peace of mind for those who put their hopes in the Lord. Because of what Christ accomplished on the cross, He has overcome Satan and the power of darkness. Therefore, we are no longer under Satan’s rulership, but under the grace and mercy of the overcomer Jesus Christ. This is good news for the believers.
We also read in James (1:14) that “but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desires and enticed”. James tells us that humans have a sinful nature and are prone to being drawn to sinful desires. So, it’s not always the evil in the world that leads us into chaos and conflict, but rather because humans are driven to it. Therefore, we should not always point a finger at Satan and say he made me do it, but rather understand that we have a choice—either to fall for it or to run from it. One of the most notable traits of the fruits of the Spirit is receiving God’s peace. This peace provides an inner calmness, different from the peace of the world. But before we receive peace of God, we must be in right standing with God.
1. Peace with God
You must first seek peace with God before you are positioned to receive the peace of God. Scripture makes a distinction between peace with God and the peace of God. First, we have peace with God, a secure standing that comes only through Christ’s finished work on the cross. Paul writes, “Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:1). Once enemies of God, we are now reconciled to Him through Jesus’ death and resurrection (Romans 5:10). What Jesus has accomplished on the cross we are no longer enemies of God, instead He has secured our peace with God. For this reason, He is called the mediator who reconciled mankind to his God. Faith in Christ has granted us a gift: peace with God. This peace with God is not fragile; it does not come and go with our failures. Our sins may grieve the Father and disrupt our fellowship, but they do not undo our justification because our right standing is fully secured in Christ. Grasping that you are secured in the work of Christ follows with a supernatural peace, especially when the lies of the enemy attack you. As mentioned above, we can grieve the Spirit and disrupt our fellowship with God. Therefore, if we want to fully experience the peace of God, we must be aware of what could hinder our fellowship. Here are some ways:
- Unforgiveness (Mark 11:25)
- Mistreating others (1 Peter 3:7)
- Cherished sin (Psalm 66:18)
- Ignoring the needy (Proverbs 21:13)
- Pride (Luke 18:11-14)
To receive these gifts, you must first trust Christ’s finished work on the cross and second, your awareness of your obedience to His commandments. The peace with God gives us the assurance of reconciliation, while the peace of God gives us the experience of rest and stability in the storms of life.
2. Know His word
The only way to truly grasp supernatural peace is to go directly to the source.
Knowing the truth and promises has personally brought me great peace when faced with challenges. To know these promises in times of hardship and trouble, you must daily memorize, refresh, and remind yourself of them so you can be ready when you encounter those situations.
3. Talk to Him
Prayer is the primary way to communicate with God, and if you want to talk to Him, you can do so anytime and from anywhere. God has invited us to speak to Him and has promised not only to respond but also to reveal mysteries beyond human understanding (Jeremiah 33:3). Finding peace amid a storm or when someone has hurt you so deeply it feels like you’ve been pierced with a sword, or being a peacemaker when you have every reason not to be, is a mystery beyond human wisdom and ability. It is only achieved by Christ alone through prayer. In the famous Sermon on the Mount, Jesus teaches us to ask, seek, and knock, and we will receive (Matthew 7:7). To ask is to enter His presence in prayer and request the peace you long for, which He has promised to give you, and the Holy Spirit transforms us as we pray. It is also written in James 4:2, “You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God.” If our world lacks this supernatural peace, it is because it has not asked for it. If you personally lack peace, it is because you have not asked for it. So, if you’re seeking this supernatural peace and wish to see it in our world, ask for it, and through His power, God will make you a supernatural peacemaker here on earth. Every Saturday morning at all our campuses, we gather for prayer, asking for His grace and mercy to be poured out over every part of our lives and our world. I would like to personally invite you to our Saturday morning prayer. You can find more information on our website regarding the locations and times.
In closing, to receive this supernatural peace of God, you must first be at peace with Him. Second, you must read His Word to understand His heart and His ways, so you know how to position yourself to receive His blessings. And third, talk to Him in prayer, ask, and be confident that He has promised to deliver.
