Group Discussion

QUESTIONS:

  • Given that appreciation is so crucial, why do you think it’s often so difficult to express gratitude in our closest relationships?
  • How can focusing on your own spiritual neediness and God’s grace help you to be more thankful for others, especially those who are difficult to love?
  • What is one way you can intentionally practice gratitude in your home this week? It could be a simple action, a word of thanks to a family member, a call to your parents, an offer to help with the chores or a hug.
  • As a group, let’s take the rest of our time to ground these ideas a little deeper. Let’s reflect on a few verses together by having someone in the group read the verse and share what it means to them.

    1. Colossians 3:15-17
    2. 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13
    3. Philippians 1:3-5
    4. Romans 1:8

KEY VERSES:

Colossians 3:15-17
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do,whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

1 Thessalonians 5:12-13
Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you. Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other.

Philippians 1:3-5
I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always praywith joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now,

Romans 1:8
First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being reported all over the world.

CLOSING PRAYER

Lord, thank You for the home and the family you have given us. For those in our midst who may be struggling with this, please give them grace. Help us to be thankful for one another, and may we live with hearts of gratitude. May we be like the one leper who returned to You, not just grateful for what You have done but for who You are. May our gratitude change our hearts and the atmosphere around us. Amen.
